The Ultimate Cooking For One Cookbook
The Ultimate Cooking for One Cookbook is a great tool for a variety of people and situations. You don't have to live alone to get use out of this book!
I was recently sent The Ultimate Cooking for One Cookbook to review and I was amazed! There are 175 recipes in the book and they are all written for one person. Some recipes are very simple while others require a bit more knowledge in the kitchen. But every recipe is a perfect single serving.
So, who is this good for? Anyone! You don't have to be single or live alone. Although, it is great for that.
Here are a few people I can think of that this would benefit:
- College students (dorm room kitchens and cooking for yourself)
- Stay at Home parents (we need lunch during the day!)
- Those who eat lunch at work (perfectly portioned just for you)
- Busy parents (especially if your schedule has you eating at different times)
- Single people (so no worrying about leftovers)
- Elderly in a retirement community (since they are usually preparing food for just themselves)
- Kids learning to cook (single portions means they can make it for themselves)
- Parents looking for a meal for their kids (for instance, if you know they won't eat what you plan to make for dinner)
I'm sure there are more but those are the first that come to mind.
Note: I was sent a free copy of The Ultimate Cooking for One Cookbook to review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
Initial Thoughts
So, what did I think of the book? I love it! There are so many days that I am home by myself at lunchtime and I don't know what to make. I don't want anything big because there are usually enough leftovers in my refrigerator.
The book has beautiful photos that go along with delicious recipes. So many are ones I wouldn't have thought could be scaled down to a single-serving, but Joanie does it!
Justin really wanted to try this recipe for Barbecue Chicken Drumsticks. He made it for himself for lunch one day and was very impressed. It's a recipe we will be making again. As you can see, each recipe has the prep and cook time so you have an idea of how long you need. There's a quick description followed by easy-to-read lists of ingredients and instructions.
The amounts are small, but remember, you are only serving one person. I looked through this and realized that many recipes can also be scaled up if I want to prepare them for the family. My boys still eat so little at each meal that I can make two portions of most of these to cover them and me on nights Justin isn't home.

I knew I wanted to try at least one of the recipes in the book before writing a review. This means I followed a full recipe through and can give a more complete and honest review.
The recipe was very easy to follow. Also, I didn't feel like any steps were left out or ambiguous. All of the ingredients were easy to find and easy to prepare. The prep and cook times were spot on for me and it made a perfect single portion.
Oh, and of course, the meal was delicious! That's always an important factor with a recipe.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I was very impressed with The Ultimate Cooking for One Cookbook. I can't wait to try other recipes from the book. I already have a few people in mind to gift the cookbook to.
